As a young boy, I liked to cure boredom by making simple videos going through my favorite video games, playing with toys in randomly thought-up scenarios, and so much more, all on an old camcorder my parents lent me. It was all just simple fun back then, and that’s how it stayed for years to come. Not uncommon at all, right? But by my tenth birthday, I began taking these videos a bit more seriously, uploading them to YouTube. At that point, it was obvious the path I’d set myself on wasn’t something every kid my age went through. And while I didn’t see that at the time, looking back on some of my first videos now, I was super passionate about what I did even then, so there’s no question. As the years went by, I slowly began putting together the pieces in realizing that passion more and more. I began to use cheap free tools to edit my videos together, got a few friends involved here and there, and branched out a bit more with what I was capable of. That was a step, but the moment all this culminating passion really clicked, was on December 26, 2018. The day I joined “The Hardcore Community.”
As mentioned in further detail under the “Nyfencore” section on the Home page, it was a community of people who liked to make fan-made hardcores, and I wanted in. From there, using the limited skills in video-creation your average thirteen-year-old kid would possess, I made my first ever season of Nyfencore in about a month. Wanna guess how it was received? Okay, I’ll admit, some of the hate was deserved. But at the end of the day, if I’m being completely honest, it was only a few pegs down from being straight up cyber-bullying. I wanted to prove them wrong. I wanted to show them I could make something actually good. And this is the part of the story where I truly begin to wonder where I’d be now if it weren’t for me joining this community. Because for the next five years, that’s exactly what I did. I downloaded Adobe Premiere Pro, fired it up, and practically taught myself how to use it, growing more and more experienced with each passing year, to the point where now, I can safely say that goal I made back then was a massive success. And now I’m a full-blown adult in my third semester of College. Wow, where did the time go?
And that’s not even the craziest part. It’s only been a bit over a year since then, and I still feel like I’ve learned so much. Now working on my “Nyfen’s Actual Content” series while studying at Michigan State University, I’ve managed to expand my knowledge base a ton past just plain old editing. Videography, filmmaking techniques and history, audio production, multicam, the list goes on and on. I’m nowhere near done learning however, and that’s what motivates me to keep going the most. That I can always be better at what I do. My true lifelong passion.
